Are you feeling the middle of the week struggle?
Was it hard to get out of bed this morning?
Are you finding everything difficult right now?
I’ve been struggling for a variety of reasons over the past two weeks. There have been career plans that didn’t work out. My thyroid and other hormones have made each day a challenge. Mother’s Day was a reminder of the loss of my Mom and Grandmother. My once thick hair continues to thin from some form of new autoimmune issue. Over all I’ve simply not been happy.
It is easy to go down what I call the rabbit hole of negative thinking and thoughts. My inner critic was pulling out every negative thought I have ever had and was telling me I was never going to have anything positive happen to me. At one point last week I am almost certain I had my husband leaving me (not happening), was feeling like none of my friends care (they do) and that nothing good was ever going to happen (good things occur every day).
Despite attempting to practice gratitude (which I do daily), I found myself struggling more than normal. Everything felt like a chore and it felt like none of my self care tricks were helping. Although I realized the space I was in was only temporary, it felt paralyzing.
There are times in our lives when everyone has a bad day, week or even month. The reasons can be medical, situational or thought created. In my case I recognized it was a little of everything.
This week I have been practicing a new way of looking at each day. As I know many also have weeks like mine, I wanted to share how I have been looking at each day. Instead of feeling overwhelmed and burdened at the tasks of each day I have been stating the following.
Today You Get To
- Wake up on a comfortable mattress in a warm bed next to a man who loves me
- Have the ability to get out of bed on my own and move my body
- Take a long hot shower
- Choose from a closet full of clothes to wear
- Have a choice of food to eat
- Drive a nice car to work
- Have the privilege of working with individuals who are desiring to improve their life
- Take a walk
- Listen to birds singing and favorite music
- Do work from a laptop and phone
- Be with people who make you laugh and smile
Originally, I intended upon sharing the negative thoughts but I have chosen to only share the positive counter statements. I do not want to honor those thoughts any more than I already have.
Begin to look at your life in regards to what you get to do. Yes, there are daily chores such as washing dishes, cleaning the house and washing laundry but somewhere there is someone who does not have that option. Today you get to do life!!
What do you get to do today? Let me know below.
