Blogtember Day 16: Review a book, place or product
I’m so excited to share with everyone two of my favorite places on earth. Of course, one is at the beach and the other is in the mountains.
I want to start with Oak Haven Resort in Sevierviille, TN. If you are located anywhere in the southeast or traveling to the Great Smoky Mountains – you MUST stay here. This log cabin resort is not your typical log cabin and consists of 122 cabins ranging from 1 bedrooms to 7 bedroom lodges. Each cabin is a small little haven with rocking chairs and swings on the front porch and hot tubs in screened in back porches. You have fully equipped kitchens and queen or king size beds. Many cabins come with game rooms which include pool tables, video games and other activities. All cabins are decorated in their own theme and you can schedule your stay at a specfic cabin (we’ve been known to schedule our long weekends around when our favorite cabins were free).
We have been going to Oak Haven at least once a year for the past (almost) 15 years. At that point there were only 70 cabins and many more were being constructed. It’s been wonderful to see the resort become what is it today. Today it includes multiple hiking and walking trails (don’t try to walk up some of the hills to the cabins unless you are in EXCELLENT shape), a pool, fitness center, playground and nearby golf.
Although you are close to the great shopping outlets in Piegon Forge, and the beauty of the Smoky Mountains National Forest, it isn’t uncommon to want to stay in your cabin. It doesn’t take long to find a perfect chair or swing and curl up with a good book. Our routine is always to check into our cabin and then head to Kroger and stock up on food for our time there. Over our history, we have developed a love for several cabins (and have become repeaters). Our two favorites lately have been Cabin 36 and Cabin 48
We first stayed at Cabin 48 “Unforgettable” this past May. I did not want to leave this beautiful cabin and felt like it could be home.
Seriously, look at these pictures – can’t you see yourself here?
This cabin has recently been remodled and one of the conditions is there be no children – COUPLES ONLY. Most of the other one bedrooms offer pull out couches so 4 adults or 2 adults and children could stay. As I mentioned, there are also “Lodges” with 7 bedrooms which have the capacity to hold 22 people.
Take a few minutes and look around the interactive cabin map and then make your next long weekend plans – with your family, your special someone, a girls weekend or simply by yourself!
And now I need to take you the beautiful island of Jamaica and Couples Resort.
Couples is an an inclusive resort with 4 resorts in Jamaica and most recently Barbados. Each resort has it’s own personality. One of the first things which stood out to me upon arriving at Couples Negril is how true the pictures on the website are to real life. Every photograph that you see is real and not photo shopped.
Upon arrival in Montego Bay, you make your way to the Couples lounge where you are greeted with Red Stripe Beer and “no worries”. The drive to most resorts is at least an hour and a half (with a stop along the way). Most of the drivers are wonderful and provide information about the island, what movies were filmed where.
Once you arrive at your resort, you are welcomed with a drink and escorted to your room. From there, you get to decide whether to go to the pool, beach, grab something to eat. Water activities include snorkeling, scuba diving, catamaran. Each resort can also help you with off site tours such as Dunn’s River Falls in Ocho Rios or Rick’s Cafe in Negril.
The following pictures are from our last trip two years ago to San Succi in Ocho Rios on the Eastern Part of the Island. This simply feels like an island hide away built into the side of a cliff. The warning here is if you are not in good shape or plan to drink more than you typically do, you need to request an ocean view room as all of the others require walking up stairs.

As the resort is on a bay, there are not other resorts around and you feel as if you are on your own private island. However, if you are looking for a wonderful beach, you need to explore one of the other resorts (Couples Negril and Swept Away).
I had one of the best spa experinces here as we had massages in a hut built over the water. The environment of the waves crashing into the rocks was theraputic and remains one of my favorite memories.
Staff at all of the resorts get to know you and learn your preferences and have your drink, or food, ready for you before you can even ask for it!.

Unlike Couples San Souci, Negril has am absolutely beautiful beach.
Like the other resorts, there are wonderful activites – or you can just sit by the pool or the beach, or find a hammock and not get up until it’s time to eat.
Speaking of eating, the food is wonderful and the staff is fantastic. This is one of my favorite waiters Garcia. We loved him so much we asked for him two nights in a row.
