I want to be honest that this week has been somewhat of a struggle for me. Spring has seemed to forget Kentucky and we have been experiencing weather more similar to March. Along with my clients, I’ve been experiencing unexpected seasonal affective disorder. Thankfully, the sun came out on Thursday and the simple act of wearing sunglasses changed my mood. The weather is calling for sun this weekend and this summer girl is desperately seeking warmth.
As I struggled with my mood this week, I focused upon gratitude. Perspective does change your outlook and today’s post is a cross between gratitude and some of my favorite reads of the week. Before the weekend, I encourage you to take some time to practice your own gratitudes.
- Sadly, there was a horrific fire in our neighborhood this week with a home being completely destroyed. The gratitude here is to see my neighborhood pull together to support this family. Events like this also make you thankful for the things you have in your own life.
- I just want to say thank you to all of the nice people in the world. The people who hold a door open or smile and speak to you. Encountering nice people can change the course of your day. Never underestimate the power of being nice.
- The Sun. Although I previously mentioned it, I feel I need to acknowledge how grateful I am to see it.
- I’m grateful that the friend I discussed in this piece earlier in the year, gave birth to a happy and healthy baby girl on Thursday. I’m equally grateful for her husband thinking to text me at 5:30 in the morning (that’s 2;30 their time) to let me know she was going into labor. This is a couple who have waited many years and suffered many heartaches to become parents. Now I’m off to get things monogrammed.
Favorites of the Week
Honestly, Justin could be a gratitude in my life. His music became the soundtrack of helping me feel better after my Mom’s death. You can’t help but move when you hear this song. Already a favorite.
The Real Housewives of Dallas
I’m not proud to admit this, but these ladies keep me coming back. Typically, I don’t watch reality tv and the housewives annoy me but I came home sick one afternoon to a marathon catch up session and now I’m hooked. This is my new brain candy.
James and I basically follow a paleo diet with a few exceptions. I love Kristyn’s Paleo Cheat Sheet that will get you started on knowing what you should and shouldn’t eat.
If you love to travel and photography then you need to become acquainted with Christina. Route Bliss is a blog sharing the travels and photos from a variety of places. I simply love looking at Christina’s photos. Just consider this instagram photo of a chapel in the middle of Arkansas from this week.
I personally don’t think we need an excuse to treat ourselves. This week I joined some pretty great ladies in this Anastasia Glow Kit Giveaway (along with a $15 Sephora gift card). Treat yourself this weekend and enter for a chance to win!
Thoughts for the Weekend
I want to thank Karen from One Salty Kiss for sharing this quote on her Facebook page. As a transition counselor, I work with many women (regardless of their age) who think it is too late to start over. It is never to late to start over. We get a new tomorrow, a new week, a new month. Each day is totally what we make it.
What you missed from me:
Wishing you a great weekend!
