Do you have a journal writer in your life? Are you a journal writer and wish others loved the practice as much as you do?
I feel that journal writing is a personal experience and choosing the medium of how one writes is an important part of the process. However, there are a variety of different gifts you can give a loved one to encourage them to begin their own journal writing process.
Today I wanted to share a few items that would be perfect for a new journal writer or even someone who is expereinced.
One Sentence a Day Journal This is perfect for someone who is hesitant in beginning a journal practice. This journal has room for only one sentence a day for 5 years. The Happiness Project provides a journal prompt for each day while you can also find journals that simply provide the space for one sentence a day of your choosing.
Kate Spade Pen I am very picky about the type of pen I use but recently I’ve fallen in love with many of the Kate Spade pens. A beautiful pen makes an excellent gift for the journal writer in your life.
The Artist’s Way Morning Pages Journal by Julia Cameron
Julia Cameron introduced the concept of morning pages which involves handwriting three pages in a journal each morning. This journal provides a start for your own morning pages practice while providing an introduction and instructions. I also recommend Julia Cameron’s Right to Write and the original The Artist’s Way.
Journal to the Self by Kathleen Adams
There are many books written about journal writing but Kathleen Adams is one of my favorite journal writers and teachers. She is a therapist who provides step by step examples of a variety of writing techniques that you can use at any time. Additionally, you do not need to be a therapist (or be in therapy) to find the techniques useful.
When all else fails, purchase a beautiful blank journal. You can find these in your local book store, Target or a speciality store.I’m including a few ideas below.
Do you plan on giving a journal as a gift?
