Happy 2018 Everyone!!
I wrote periodically over the past few months and the new year is time for new routines. Friday Favorites are always a fun post to read and share and I’m so glad to be sharing the first of the year today.
Word of the Year
I find that having a word of the year varies from person to person. Some like the idea and others do not. Several years ago, I shared how my year of hello truly changed my perspective. Since that year, I have had years when I didn’t focus upon my word as much and as a result did not succeed. For 2018, I have chosen to have a word again and this year my word is KINDNESS.
I chose kindness after watching a new story on how practicing an act of kindness each day can improve one’s health and decrease depression (much like practicing gratitude). The world is always in need of more kindness but also I feel it is important to practice kindness toward myself.
Workout of the Year
I’ve been trying to workout on my own at home with various results. I love barre classes but the studios in town are not close to my work or home or either had odd schedules that did not fit. Fortunately, on January 1, Barre Lex opened and is only 10 minutes from my house. Needless to say, I have been multiple times and find myself looking ahead at my schedule to see what class I can attend. If you haven’t tried a Bounce Barre Class, I highly suggest you do if you can. I feel this is proof that you truly must LOVE your workout routine. If you haven’t found what you love to do, keep looking. PS: Many studios and gyms allow you to have a free class or week. This is a great way to try things out.
Come to my Hometown
My beautiful city of Lexington Kentucky was named in Vogue Magazine’s Top Destinations To Visit in 2018. Of course I am partial to my city but there is so much to see and do here – and the food scene is a little out of control.!
Gratitude / Happiness Jar
I shared in my monthly January newsletter (which you need to subscribe to) that my husband James and I created a gratitude jar in 2017. At the end of each week, we each took time to share what we were grateful for or happy about. We each placed a slip of paper in a jar and on New Year’s Eve we read them all. This is a great activity to have as a family or for children and I have recruited (not purposefully) several friends to try their own gratitude jars in 2018.
If you struggle with negativity and have never been able to do a gratitude journal daily, I encourage you to try once a week. This link shows examples of homemade gratitude jars and I plan to share mine on an episode of my gratitude diaries on Facebook live. (Follow me on Facebook for weekly updates.)
