I’ve taken a few weeks off from my Five on Friday (not that there hasn’t been things on my mind). This week has been wildly chaotic and crazy for me and it’s helped to set aside some time for one of my favorite weekly posts.
1. The SJP Collection at Nordstrom
In case you haven’t heard, Sarah Jessica Parker releases her new line of shoes today!!! Sadly, the Cincinnati Nordstrom will not have them. Of course I could order online – but the experince of trying on all of the shoes is just as important. When I mentioned the closest the collection will be is Nashville – James mentioned we could always take a trip! My love for shoes is coming back!!!
2. Brian Williams Raps “Rapper’s Delight”
I will openly admit that I have a crush on Brian Williams. I love that he delivers the news with a little bit of sarcasm and also that each night the news ends with the “Making a Difference segment.” As if I couldn’t love him more, his rap of Rapper’s Delight was released. It’s become what I watch when I need a smile!
3. The Oscars are Coming!!
As I said, my week has been so hectic that I kept thinking the Oscars were still a week away. I then realized it is THIS SUNDAY!!. This will be my wonderful piece of brain candy where I can see what everyone is wearing. I also love Ellen – so I know it’s going to be a great time.
I’m in need of new running shoes and haven’t been able to find what I want in any of the local stores. Thank goodness for Zappos – I ordered 3 different shoes to try and will return the ones that don’t work with free postage. Shopping made easy. Here’s what I have it narrowed down to – yes, same shoe – different colors.
In past years, I haven’t truly kept up with this series but this season I have watched the episodes that I DVR’d (yes, I one of those people who records and doesn’t watch). There are only 5 more episodes and I’m anxious to see how everything ends.
It’s already the second Friday of the year. I’m hoping you made it through your first full work week and are making some movement toward your intentions for 2014.
As for this week, here are some of the things on my mind.
As a journal writer and teacher, I like to share that research has shown writing down gratitudes on a daily basis has shown to boost your immune system. Even on the worst of days, one can always find something to feel grateful about.
I found out about #365Grateful on New Year’s Day. This is a movement you can be a part of by sharing your photographs on Instagram with #365Grateful. If you are someone who has never been able to write down what you are grateful for, take a few minutes each day to take a photo and share with others. You can follow me @SherylWW
2. Work out with Tracey
Tracey Anderson is known for being the trainer to Gwyneth Paltrow, Kim Kardashian and many other stars. I have done her mat workout in the past but found it difficult to follow along. Her new DVD’s have excellent instructions and provide an excellent workout. She looks at lengthening your muscles (she was a dancer) and the work outs are with minimal or no weights (but trust me, you still feel like you arms might fall off)
3. Down Coats
I could talk about the cold weather that we have experienced this week, but I would rather talk about my new down coat. My Calvin Klein coat was an impulse buy from Costco and I’ve been so thankful for it. Why has it taken me so long to have one? (oh, that’s right, I hate coats) I love that it is so light but extremely warm. Seriously, now I think I need another color!
4. Orange is the New Black
Over Christmas break, I was able to begin watching this Netflix series. I LOVE it! I am only halfway through the first season and each episode gets better.
5. Some one is coming Home!
Despite a closed I-65 due to ice and snow and sub zero temperatures, James has been in Indianapolis this week for training. He will get home tonight and I’m always glad to have him home. I never sleep as well without him!
Thanks for stopping by and take some time to follow along with the other wonderful ladies ladies in the Five on Friday link-up!
Hi Everyone! It’s Friday and I’ve made the return to my Five on Friday.
1. Holly Day Market Time
It’s time to do some Christmas shopping and the Holly Day Market is the perfect place to start.
Presented by the wonderful ladies of the Junior League of Lexington this is a fantastic event held at the Alltech Arena. You can truly get all of your Christmas lists completed while having the opportunity to shop wonderful boutiques and shops all in one area. This is one of two fundraisers that the Junior League presents each year which enables funding for local agencies in the Central Kentucky area.
2. Starbucks – Buy one get one Free
3. Sephora – The Toy Store for Women
I truly shouldn’t be as excited as I am but this week I became a VIB at Sephora. What this means is that I have spent entirely too much on make-up and other beauty supplies this year but as one of my friends stated “Sephora is a toy store for women.” Because of my new status, I receive a make-over, 10% off my next purchase and other fabulous goodies along the way.
4. What You Should Be Reading
Thanks to a previous Five on Friday, I became familiar with The Skimm. By signing up, you will receive a daily e-mail which gives you a basic run down on all of the important headlines It’s been called a necessity for a conversation starter and I love the fact if you want additional information that it provides you with links. I must add that there is also some humor thrown in and who doesn’t need that when reading about the world. I highly encourage you to try it.
5. Finding Some Calm
This week I’ve begun the 21 day meditation challenge with Oprah and Deepak Chopra. I have practiced forms of meditation over the years but am feeling especially at this time in my life that I need to take time each day to simply sit and focus. I love the tones of both Oprah’s and Deepak’s voices and the daily centering thought is certainly something each of us can use. For those of you who also journal there is a journal to write down your feelings regarding that day’s meditation. Give it a try for at least one day.
Go and have a great Friday and make sure to spend some time doing something you love.
I haven’t had the time to reconnect with the Five on Friday link up in awhile and thought I would do so today. The week has been one with ups and downs but I suppose you could say my list today is of things that simply make me smile and bring some form of happiness.
Tall Boots. This week I have worn my boots twice and just love this part of my fall and winter wardrobe. I suppose because I am walking on campus to classes, I have become fond of my riding boots or the smaller 1 inch heel – but I want my friends to know I rocked my black ones with the 3 inch heel too!! I’m currently loving black and brown boots but haven’t made any purchases.
Keeping on the shoe trend. I just LOVE my work out shoes. Not only do I love the way the shoe fits but the colors make me SO happy each morning when I put them on. Another way to stay motivated in your workout is to wear things that are comfortable and cute!! I just wish I had bought more than one pair as this style isn’t available anymore.
James and I are huge fans of Will Ferrell and the movie Anchorman (there are so many reasons why I’m glad the movie is coming out on Christmas Day). This past weekend the new Dodge Durango commercials began airing. A recent news release stated Will Ferrell wrote and filmed over 60 commercials (but most will not be airing or available on you tube). If you don’t know the movie, the commercials probably aren’t funny – but here is one of them.
And just for fun, here’s the Anchorman 2 promotional trailer.
I didn’t get a chance to see the video during E! news the other night but found it this morning. Betty White and Gavin Macleod have made a safety video for Air New Zealand using friends at a retirement community. We all know that the safety information can be boring (especially if you are a frequent flier). I’m always open for something different. Hope this makes you smile.
I experienced my first negative interaction in regards to this blog. Which I am taking as my blog is growing (I’ve read other bloggers post about this). Everyone has the right to their opinion However, this blog often touches on a subject (grief) that makes many uncomfortable. I write this blog as a form of therapy for myself but also for anyone else who may be going through a loss of any kind and attempting to find a new normal. That being said, I feel the following quote speaks volumes. There are individuals who will never understand and there are those who immediately know. Surround yourself with supportive people.
Have a great weekend!!
To continue with remembering the activities which have helped me get through this not so great week. I’m linking up today for Five on Friday.
I’ve mentioned before that I love music and have music playing most of the time. In the future I plan another post about the significance of music. But for today, I’m listing the Five songs that helped pull me from my funk…
1.Stand by Lenny Kravitz
Yes, I had it on replay for about half and hour
“Don’t give up, you’re going to see tomorrow then you’ll be on your feet again.”
“Stand, Up again. Come on Stand. Stand you’re going to run again.”
The words are inspiring and the music MAKES you want to move.
2. A tie between Catch My Breath and Stronger – Kelly Clarkson
This is a great running song for me and once again the words are significant for me.
“Catching my breath, letting it go, turning my check for the sake of the show.”
“No one can hold me back, don’t have time for that.”
“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” Not much else to add!
3. See You Again – Carrie Underwood
Yes, there is the potential that this song could you make one cry. However, for me it brings me comfort. Gives me hope. I will be able to see my Mom and Nanny again.
“I said good bye, turned around and you were gone, gone, gone. Faded into the setting sun. I won’t cry because I know I will never be lonely. You are the stars to me, you are the light I follow.
I will see you again, I will carry you with me.”
4. Titanium – David Guetta & Sia
I’m not crazy about this video but basically, this song has become my Theme song over the past year.
“You shoot me down, but I get up. I’m bullet proof, Nothing to lose. Fire Away, Fire Away. You shoot me down, but I won’t fall. I am Titanium.”
There were so many days when I felt like life just kept hitting me with something else. This song reminded me that I can withstand whatever is put in front of me. This is the first song on my driving playlist. Also a great running song.
5. The Fighter (featuring Ryan Tedder) – Gym Class Heroes
” If you fall, pick yourself up off the floor and when your bones can’t take anymore, remember what you’re here for.
“There goes a fighter, there goes a fighter, here comes a fighter, that’s what they say to me – this one’s a fighter”
Sometimes, you just have to fight through the bad stuff and this song helped me to get through all of those days in the past year.
As you can see, my music taste goes all over the place and I’ve found each genre does something different for me.
I encourage you to think about the songs that help you get through the day, or are significant to you.
Have a great weekend!!!
