Happy Friday Everyone! It’s time to participate in the wonderful link up I found last year. I truly encourage you to follow along and to read new bloggers. Over the past year, I have discovered so many new products and ideas shared by others.
For the First link up of the year, I’ve decided to share with you a a few of my intentions (I’m not going to call them resolutions) for 2014. I also plan to use the last Friday of each month as a way to share how I have been doing and to hold myself accountable as I work toward making a better Sheryl.
1. MY WORD OF THE YEAR
There has become a trend of choosing a word to focus upon for the year ahead. This is a word which can center you and help you decide in regards to what you are dealing with. As I was writing my last post of 2013, I realized that the world I was going to chose was HELLO!. As you know, I said good-bye to many things last year and I am ready to begin saying HELLO!.
I worried at first because I obviously do not want to say Hello to everything that comes my way. However, by making this word my focus, it will encourage me to look at every situation in a different manner. I want to say Hello to opportunities I may have not acknowledged, or been to afraid of, in the past. HELLO 2014 – I look forward to you!
2. HEALTH, FITNESS AND DIET
I intend to write a post in regards to my thoughts about health. Although I visited my regular physician last year, I am now in need of all of the normal health check-ups. I have to admit, having two family members die of cancer does make me a little nervous about my own health. Thus, I know I need to care for myself with all of the necessary check-ups.
I’ve been working out, but over the last few weeks that hasn’t been on a regular basis. I intend to come up with a regular work-out schedule. We will be celebrating our anniversary in May in Jamaica – and I’ve vowed to wear a bikini – and to look good in it! (Because, wearing a bikini and looking good in one are two different things). That’s a pretty good goal.
I continue to eat gluten and dairy free but I’m basically repeating the same recipes. My goal at a minimum is to try two new recipes a month (more if I can). I also truly don’t want to cheat in regards to gluten and want to stop allowing some in my diet at times. I feel so much better when I am completely detoxed
3. MAKE TIME FOR BEING CREATIVE
I have to acknowledge that in many ways, this blog is a creative outlet for me. However, I am a girl who loves to create. I intend to get back to making a new wreath at least every two months for my front door. I also plan to do some painting in my house. There’s a wall just screaming for chalkboard paint in kitchen.
Over the past year, I presented a presentation on the therapeutic power of journal writing and I’m scheduled for another presentation next month. I would like to continue this throughout the year and help others establish a journal routine.
4. MAKE TIME FOR PLAY (or Brain Candy)
As adults, we often forget to make time to play. Some of us aren’t even sure what we like to do for fun. Of course, being creative could be play but it’s also important to make sure you are doing it.
Take a walk, color, play in the dirt and garden.
I often encourage my clients to make time for what I call brain candy – something that is totally a guilty pleasure. It can be making time to read a gossip or fashion magazine or even watching a reality show. I used to always make sure I spent a few minutes a day reading People.com or Eonline. The trick is set a limit on the time you are doing it. Brain candy is only health in moderation. As my schedule has changed, I find I haven’t been doing that very often.
5. MAKE TIME FOR FRIENDS
My friends and I have schedules where we truly do need to schedule each other. Over the past year, my group of friends and I have been relatively successful at keeping regular “dates”. This is something that I NEED. Many of us have a monthly girls night out and in between, I make time for lunch, coffee and work out dates with others. I want to make sure each week I am doing this check in with at least one of my important ladies that I love.
So this is a condensed version of what I hope 2014 will look like. I feel like this is a great start for reestablishing myself after last year. I will keep everyone updated on my success, or if I need to make adjustments.
Finally, I wanted to share this fantastic video by Pharrell Williams, which simply makes me “Happy”.
I dare you to not want to dance and smile.
