I started this blog in regards to helping myself and others find the things in life which make life worth living. Despite all of the events going on in my life, I wanted to spend a few minutes recognizing the things which do make me happy and grateful.
Today was a beautiful spring day in Kentucky and I actually had the afternoon to myself (no appointments, not needed anywhere). There was so much I could do but I needed to get dirty and did some gardening in the yard. We completed construction on this house two years ago but I’ve not been able to do the landscaping I wanted to do and today I was able to plant new shrubs in our front yard. Additionally, I was able to plant a peony bush in the back yard. I wasn’t able to transplant my favorite peony bush from our last home and it feels good to have one. We have plans for trees in the backyard later on within the month.
After planting, I also cleaned and organized our garage – after several months, it was in desperate need of organization. My soundtrack for the afternoon consisted of Justin Timberlake (I’ve mentioned my fascination with him already) and Kenny Chesney (Love, love, love him). Both have new CD’s and I love both of them.
It’s important to acknowledge the things which make the day better – it’s a small form of self care that one can do and ideally it should be something that simply happens.
A few other things which make me happy include:
My Coach Poppy Medium Chain Purse in green. I did some retail therapy in March and fell in love with this purse. I do not typically buy a purse that isn’t in a neutral shade but at simply seeing this purse – I knew I had to have it. I believe I was needing color in my life and each day I smile when I pick it up. Every where I go, someone comments on it – which is always a good sign that you’ve made a great purchase.
My youngest cat Sam – he’s our court jester and is always doing something silly that makes me smile. This is Sam outside in the backyard, which makes him happy. Actually, he just looks happy all the time.
Finally, I am lucky enough to be married to my best friend who has supported me and continues to support me whether I need a hug or a laugh. I thank God several times a day that we found each other. This is a picture of him at the Dolphins-Bengals game last October. Despite the Dolphins constant inability to make the post season – he is a true, hard core fan and the NFL makes him happy.
Take a few minutes of your day and think about the things which make you happy. We rush around and often don’t take time to appreciate the small things. And in all honesty, it’s the small things that matter.
