Merry Christmas Everyone!!
With two days before Christmas, I know many are scrambling to finish purchasing, wrapping and cooking. I know that many people struggle this time of year with the pursuit of the perfect Christmas for their children and even for the adults. As a counselor, I always spend the weeks between the holidays helping clients deal with the stress and anxiety of the season. Many stress over the inability to have a “perfect” holiday because of money or illness or family struggles. There is always a fear of letting someone down and not living up to the Pinterest or Instagram image.
What I want to share today is that after 15 years of counseling and meeting with individuals from all walks of life, is that everyone struggles in some form of desiring to have the perfect Christmas. Families with limited incomes struggle with not having the right gifts under the trees. Families with financial means often stress over having the right decor and looking perfect. (I once worked with a client who was consumed that her tables were not going to be even because there was an odd number of guests.) Illness and death touch everyone regardless of socioeconomic status.
The message of the season does become lost in regards to those of us who are Christians are celebrating the birth of Jesus. He was not born in a four star hotel and his gifts were not perfectly wrapped. There was not a huge meal.
2016 has been a year of so many emotions in our country and world. Fear has often overtaken good. At times it appears that the power of love has been forgotten.
If I could gift each of you anything this season, it is love. Love each other, love yourself and remember that love does win!
Here are a few reading suggestions for over the holiday weekend!
Because I am hoping you are able to receive some rest over the next week.
Because you will likely need to have conversations over the weekend.
Because, we all want to enjoy our lives more.
I guarantee that you have something you need to let go of.
I know it’s easy to use the phone to avoid talking but what does it really say to others?
Wishing you a Merry Christmas!! Comfort to those who are hurting and most importantly, Love.
