To The Women On My Journey

Poem to the Women on My Journey

I am always amazed at the power of women.

Although women continue to fight for equal rights and justice throughout this world, it is important to acknowledge the progress that has been made because brave women saw the need to fight oppression in the world and demand equality.  I have not known a world where I could not vote nor have I ever been denied the right for education. However, it is because of brave women before me that I have the rights I do today. I do not hesitate to say that I often question if I would have had the courage to go against a father, husband and culture if I were faced with the same circumstances. What I realize is that women make a difference each day in small ways. Each day there is a woman somewhere making a difference in someone’s life. It could be a mother caring for her child, a teacher encouraging a student or a friend holding out a hand to another. As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I want to thank all of the women on my journey. I’m thankful for those women I know only from history books who had no idea I would exist but prayed there would someday be a young women who could easily do the actions they were denied. I’m blessed with a  long line of  women in my family who had both success and failures along the way. I am a result of how they lived their lives. I’m equally grateful for the beautiful women of all ages who I consider role models, mentors, peers and friends. Today I encourage you to put away thoughts of pettiness and express your thanks to a few women on your own journey. The following poem was a framed gift I provided to both my Mom and Grandmother at my wedding rehearsal dinner. It spoke to me in many ways as I learned many lessons from them throughout my life. I now want to pass it along to each of you. Thank you for following along on this journey with me. 1 Sheryl Signature (1)]]>

“I am always amazed at the power of women.”
Holy cow, I could not agree with this more. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized how supportive women can be of one another (unlike our younger years when we’re not always so nice).

I feel the same way Daniela! The support and love of my female friends has been amazing in my life. If only we could realize that when we were in high school. Thanks for stopping by.
