A Podcast to Make You Happier!

The Happier Podcast provides tips and suggestions to help you become happier. Are you looking to add daily activities to your life that will make you happier? If so, you need to be listening to the Happier podcast with Gretchen Rubin!. I am relatively new in regards to listening to podcasts on a regular basis but Happier has become a part of my Wednesday morning commute and I am certain you will want to make it a part of your regular routine. Several years ago, I fell in love with Gretchen Rubin’s The Happiness Project and began to tell my friends “You have to read this!” I talked about it so much that I believe some of my friends read it to simply get me to stop talking about it. In The Happiness Project, Rubin spends a year of her life focusing each month on an area of her life she would like to be happier in. By utilizing research and self help suggestions she worked on areas such as leisure, family and work. Her book is both humorous at times and insightful in regards that small actions can bring happiness. PodcastHappierLogo (1)   In Happier, each week Rubin and her sister Elizabeth Craft come together to discuss practical advice and manageable techniques which can impact daily happiness. The “Try it at Home” section includes examples of the one minute rule where one focuses upon tasks that can be completed in less than a minute such as putting the dishes in the dishwasher or hanging up a coat. Playing off of the one minute rule is developing a power hour where each week one takes an hour to complete the tasks that have been ignored each week which might include changing a lightbulb or moving something that is in the way. Many of the suggestions may appear to be simple and easy but they are often not incorporated into daily life. Gretchen and her sister are realistic and share their own success and failures with their techniques in the Gold Star and Demerits section. Elizabeth felt she needed to establish a routine to get to bed earlier and began to set an alarm to remind her to shut everything off. She was successful to the point she often had to get up to turn off her alarm that reminded her to go to bed. The sisters constantly support each other in regards to the fact life (and happiness) is a constant work in progress. Another aspect I appreciate about the podcast is each episode ranges from 25 – 35 minutes. It is long enough to listen to on a commute and leaves one inspired and with new ideas. At times I have even thought about establishing my own “Try it at Home” section and reporting on it here on the blog (something I am still thinking about it).

I highly encourage everyone to put Happier on their podcast playlist. New episodes arrive each Wednesday. Have you listened to Happier? Are there other podcasts you enjoy?

I agree with you Katie – it’s so nice that the suggestions are simple and easy – we just need to implement them.

I really do like most everything she does – although I haven’t read her newest book. I think she will also be doing a Super Soul Sunday with Oprah in November – which should be interesting.

Sounds like it’s right up my alley. I loved the book (though I honestly haven’t finished it). I love podcasts!

You don’t have to have read the book to love this podcast. I loved the book the first time I read it but tried to read it a second time and couldn’t get into it. Sometimes it a good time to read a book and others it isn’t.

I’ve been looking for more podcasts to listen to as I’m doing chores or driving to work!

This podcast sounds awesome! I’m not great at remembering to listen to them… maybe this one will stick? haha I have Gretchen Rubin’s book about habits, but I haven’t gotten around to reading it yet. I love the idea of a Power Hour, though, that makes so much sense and takes the need to procrastinate out of cleaning/all those annoying chores around the house!

I definitely need to check out this podcast, it sounds so uplifting!
